Kickstart Scheme
Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales were delighted to be a KickStart placement provider to support young people into work. As an Organisation we were able to recruit a total of 12 young people to work within the organisation as Youth Support Workers, Sports Coaches, social media Officers and Admin Officers. These paid work placements were for young people aged 16-24 earning the national minimum wage for 25 hours per week. For many young people this was their first taste of working!
The Kickstart Scheme has been a great success at BGC Wales. We currently have three staff working with us as part of the Kickstart scheme - here is some information from one of these workers - Lahn
"My role as a Kickstart worker began in October 2021 as a Youth Support Worker in the Bridgend area. So far I have been working in various youth clubs including Nantymoel, Wyndham, Bettws and KPC, etc. This is an eye-opening experience - I have the opportunity to interact and engage with young people from all across Bridgend and provide them with opportunities they may not have, or even a person to talk to and express their feelings and thoughts with. It is also a fantastic opportunity for me to gain qualifications and widen my knowledge on youth work, as well as expand my knowledge on office skills such as excel spreadsheets, office technology and archiving historical correspondences.
